A Brand New Day at Dixon Family YMCA

Dear Friends of the Dixon Family YMCA:

I recently attended the YMCA General Assembly in Salt Lake City. At this event, Y-USA launched a national branding campaign to better reflect the mission and effectiveness of the national movement. For the first time in 43 years, the YMCA of the USA unveiled a new brand strategy and visual identity. The goal is to make it easier for us to explain the positive impact our Y Movement has on the youth and adults we serve.

It is important to know that our Mission Statement and the national Mission Statement have not changed, with a consistent commitment to our Christian principles; in fact, living our Mission is more important than ever. The Dixon Family YMCA Mission statement is:  to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all.

Our corporate name remains the same: the Dixon Family YMCA. And we remain required to list our organization as the “Young Men’s Christian Association” on official corporate documents. But, for the first time, we will call ourselves by the name that most people already use: the Y. For all of us that use the old nickname, “the Y,” we are now officially okay!

There is an updated, forward-looking new logo for the national Y, created to reflect the vibrancy, diversity and heritage of our organization. The updated logo retains the triangle (symbolizing Spirit, Mind and Body-fundamental elements of the Y). For the first time in many years, the new logo requires “YMCA” to be present in all treatments. This was not the case in our previous logo. This logo comes in several color combinations, fun colors that also reflect the variety of what we do and who we serve.

Here are examples of the new logo:

Often times, the public doesn’t see the cause behind our work; the “why” behind the Y. The new brand sets a framework around the areas where the Y has always been involved: youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, all of which positions us to strengthen the foundations of community in America. Our Y programs are more than fun; they incorporate our core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility. Families come together from across the community for family time, family swim, enjoying healthy activities at our facilities while growing closer together.  We also partner with many groups and organizations sharing in building a healthier community. All are strengthened by their experience at the Dixon Family YMCA.

In the coming months, you will see the new brand architecture phased in at our Y, but rest assured that we remain true to our values at the Dixon Family YMCA.

Our Cause Defines Us

We know that lasting personal and social change comes about when we all work together. That’s why, at the Y, strengthening community is our cause.  Every day, we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.

Our Strength is in Community

The Y is a nonprofit like no other. That’s because in 10,000 neighborhoods across the nation, we have the presence and partnerships to not just promise, but deliver, positive change.

  • The Y is community centered. For nearly 160 years, we’eve been listening and responding to our communities.
  • The Y brings people together. We connect people of all ages and backgrounds to bridge the gaps in community needs.
  • The Y nurtures potential. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.
  • The Y has local presence and global reach. We mobilize local communities to effect lasting, meaningful change.

Our Impact is Felt Every Day

With a mission to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all, our impact is felt when an individual makes a healthy choice, when a mentor inspires a child and when a community comes together for the common good.
